About
Mother. Teacher. Administrator. Wife. My personal experiences as a child and mother along with nearly 20 years of professional research had proven to me that poor minority families and public schools didn’t work well together. The Covid pandemic proved this fact to the nation! And yet, here we are four years later with no meaningful changes on the part of our nation’s schools to improve this longstanding rift between poor, minority families and our public schools.
EquiLearn for Educators was established to address the pre-existing educational inequalities that have affected poor and minority students and their families for decades. Studies describing the challenges that these learners and their families faced during the pandemic show significant academic and social hurdles, largely stemming from our public schools’ ongoing struggle to cultivate meaningful, respectful partnerships with all families—not just those with financial means.
Despite decades of research affirming the importance of family-school collaboration, many schools have yet to change their practices. Recognizing this urgent need, EquiLearn is dedicated to empowering low-income and working-class minority families, ensuring they have the knowledge and resources to support their children’s academic, social, and emotional development. We believe that all families deserve to be informed, prepared, and equipped to advocate for their children’s success. Our mission is supported by resources that feature evidence-based interventions designed to meet the diverse needs of students. We focus on enhancing both academic growth and social-emotional learning (SEL) so that every child can thrive.
Our initiative offers promising practices that break down the barriers associated with the Common Core Standards, enabling every parent to engage in their child’s education, regardless of their socioeconomic status or familiarity with instructional methods. We are committed to equipping the first educators—the parent, especially those with limited experience—with classroom teaching strategies.
EquiLearn strives to create a more equitable and supportive educational landscape for all children and their families, fostering a community where every learner can reach their fullest potential.
