I Created Prepare for Life: READING — because African American students earn the lowest reading scores among all racial groups with scores 30 - 40 points lower than Asian and White students. To improve their reading skills, our children must understand the importance of reading in everyday life. By involving them in reading recipes, writing and reading shopping lists, instructions for playing board games and building projects you motivate them. Opening their minds to the joy, and importance of reading.

Research shows that children who regularly participate in these literacy-rich activities

• increase their vocabulary skills, and
• upgrade their problem-solving skills, and
• improve their reading comprehension by as much as 10 - 15%.
